Guest Instructor Debbie began her dance training in Thunder Bay with Sylvia Horn and Betty Goodings. She received professional ballet training at the National Ballet School and on full-time scholarship at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, and trained in modern at Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers. She danced with Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers under the directorship of Rachel Browne and worked with many renowned modern choreographers, as well as furthering her studies at the Limon Institute, Alvin Ailey and Ballet Hispanico in New York.
She studied at Ryerson, University of Waterloo and privately to obtain the Teaching Diploma of the Royal Academy of Dance for Grades and Major examinations and has been teaching ballet and modern for over 35 years. She has also received teaching certification with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (Ballet Division) and Dance Masters of America’s Canadian Chapter.
After directing her own successful school in Thunder Bay for several years, Ms. Delvecchio was appointed School Coordinator (Ballet Division) at the School of Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers where she coached students for their R.A.D. exams and choreographed for the annual Arts Festival. Following this, her teaching and studies took her to the Toronto area where she has taught Master Classes at Regional and National Conventions in the Toronto area and as well, Nutcracker, Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Tempest.
While many of her students have gone on to teach and dance professionally in modern and musical theatre in New York, Europe and Toronto, Debbie feels especially fortunate to have two of her former ballet students currently dancing as soloists with the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany and the National Ballet of Canada.
